Soccer Training
Soccer training is something all young players can benefit from if they want to be part of a successful team. Success in the game of soccer isn’t always defined as being on the “winning” team. Success means playing as a cohesive team unit that consistently executes moves that are accurate and well planned. When young people learn how to play soccer, they should be given exposure to skills training, technique, and sportsmanship in equal degrees.
Young players often want to figure things out on their own through trial and error. Although this can be beneficial to self discovery, when it comes to soccer every player needs a good coach to guide them and correct poor techniques. The role of the coach is to guide young players and also teach them the basic skills that are the backbone of the sport. Soccer training is a combination of the coach and the players communicating through proven techniques.
Coaches can teach by playing the role of a leader to young players. It is important that a coach remember one basic concept: the game is for the players and not the coach. Unlike other sports, where a coach can jump into the game at any given opportunity, in soccer the coach rarely interferes with the decisions players make while they are on the field. Practices are where coaches can show players what works and what doesn’t, leaving players to remember these concepts on their own when they are in the middle of a game.
Coaching young players requires not only skill and knowledge, but patience and understanding as well. Soccer training takes on a different meaning when working with youth of different ages. As players work from one level of competence to another, they will be faced with different challenges. A good coach can recognize the needs of each age level and provide the right training and coaching techniques for every age group.
Young soccer players learn best when they are shown each soccer technique separately. This way they can focus on perfecting one technique at a time. It will take many games before young players are able to successfully put together everything they have learned in training, but the end result is well worth it.
